Takeshi Kaneshiro And Jackie Chan In Green Globes Face Off
One of the most sought-after male leading actors in Asia, Takeshi Kaneshiro has been nominated in multiple categories for the Green Globe Film Awards, whose 100 Viewers' Choice Awards are selected by global movie lovers through an online voting system.
The half-Taiwanese, half-Japanese actor who is fluent in five languages and began his career as a pop idol, has been nominated for three awards: Best International Entertainer, Asian Cultural Ambassador of the Decade and 10 Best International Actors of the Decade.
Kaneshiro faces stiff competition in these categories with Korean entertainer Rain (Jeong Jihoon / Jung Jihoon / Bi-Rain) and Chinese fan favorite Jackie Chan . In addition, the John Woo film Red Cliff starring Kaneshiro was nominated as Best International Film of the Decade, and Red Cliff II was nominated as Best International Film and Best International Drama. The 2010 International Category Theme of the Green Globe Film Awards is "Asian Films".
A celebrity tribute to the late award-winning Japanese film director Akira Kurosawa on the 100th anniversary of his birth, will be a highlight of the evening's events.
Directors such as Steven Spielberg, Francis Ford Coppola, George Lucas and Martin Scorsese were greatly impacted by the work of Kurosawa. It has been said that Director John Woo made Kurosawa's "The Seven Samurai" a required viewing for members of his film crew who were not familiar with Kurosawa during the filming of the Red Cliff series.
The awards will be dished out at a Hollywood ceremony on March 23rd, 2010.
