Tony Leung and Carina Lau Marry in Bhutan
Carina Lau
married in the Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan yesterday morning.
It has taken Tony, 46, and Carina, 42, nearly two decades to get to the altar.
The ceremony took place in the luxury Uma Paro hotel, which is situated in a hilly area. This aided the tight security as the main roads leading up to the hotel were closed off to anyone who was not on the guest list. Reporters were kept at bay and any who tried to evade the guards and hike up the hill through the woods were swiftly intercepted and ejected.
Guests, including Faye Wong (王菲), Brigitte Lin (林青霞), Kenny Bee (鍾鎮濤), Chang Chen (張震), Cecilia Yip (葉童) and Stanley Kwan (關錦鵬), began arriving from around 9am to attend the ceremony. A busload of young lamas was then sighted leaving the area in the early afternoon.
Although the couple did everything to maintain privacy for their special day, they were still very understanding of the waiting press and issued official release photographs to share their happy day with the media and all their fans throughout the world. The photographs showed Tony and Carina wearing their matching ivory wedding outfits for the main ceremony and Carina's red Gucci dress that she wore during the evening reception.
A representative was also sent out in the evening with some cake and champagne for the waiting reporters. The spokesperson reported that the ceremony had taken place in two parts – the first being a traditional Buddhist ceremony that is officially recognised as a marriage in Bhutan. For the second part, Carina showed off her 12 carat Cartier wedding ring, worth over HK$10 million, as she cut her five-tiered wedding cake with Tony.
