AKB48 won the award for the second year running after selling 8,192,364 singles and 1,315,929 albums, 699,740 music videos and 6,487,861 downloads worth over 20 billion yen in total, Nikkan Sports reported Tuesday.
AKB48 picked up eight gongs at the ceremony, while Che'Nelle, 29, picked up the award for best non-Japanese artist. Mr. Children secured the award for album of the year and the download song of the year prize went to 35-year-old Namie Amuro.
