Hong Kong actress-model Angelababy has become involved in a legal tussle recently, reported Hong Kong media.

Angelababy was signed as the spokesmodel for a camera manufacturer's new camera earlier this year.

But she uploaded a photo of herself with that camera, which had not been officially released on the market at the time, over her Instagram (a photo sharing app) account on March 17.

The camera manufacturer claimed Angelababy's actions had contravened the confidentiality clause in her contract, and terminated its contract with her, promptly removing Angelababy from its advertisements as well as promotional materials for the camera.

The camera manufacturer had since asked the 23-year-old star to return the 9.91 million yuan in fees it had already paid her, and demanded she pay 1 million yuan in damages for leaking details of their new camera in her photo.

In response, the advertising agency Angelababy belonged to, had appealed to the courts to declare the camera manufacturer's claim invalid, and had demanded that the camera manufacturer pay them 2.75 million yuan (S$548,000) in damages.

While Angelababy's manager Kim Chou on Tuesday confirmed that the model is in the midst of legal proceedings, she said that this legal tussle is actually between the advertising agency and the camera manufacturer.

"They are not suing Angelababy," said Chou, adding that she hoped the whole matter can be settled amicably.

"Angelababy had never encountered such an incident before ... she put the photo on the web not to cause trouble, but to help promote [the camera]."
