Speed

Speed is an all-female, all-Okinawan J-pop group, consisting of four members hailing from Okinawa Japan: Hiroko Shimabukuro, Eriko Imai, Takako Uehara and Hitoe Arakaki. They all attended the Okinawa Actors School. Debuting in August 1996, Speed won multiple awards and became one of most popular female groups in J-pop history. However, the group was once disbanded in March 2000. The group was heavily influenced by American R&B group TLC. Although they once shifted towards Japanese idol music, they returned to R&B with their last single "Long Way Home". Within a few years before their disbandment, they sold about 20 million copies of albums & singles alone in Japan. After an eight-year hiatus, the group officially reunited in 2008.
